Almost seventy percent of tobacco users want to quit, and the resources below can help. Counseling and medication are proven to be effective when used for treating tobacco dependence and the combination of the two are more effective than either alone. If you have tried to quit before, and you were unsuccessful, don't be discouraged. Multiple quit attempts are very common, don't give up! The following resources are available to students, employees and all Idaho residents.

Freshstart - American Cancer Society
Freshstart is a nicotine cessation program offered by appointment via Zoom and is available to all students, 教师, 和工作人员, including extension and all statewide U of I locations. This four part class is geared to help participants increase their motivation to quit, learn effective approaches for quitting and guide them in making a successful quit attempt.

Idaho residents can call the Idaho QuitLine to speak with a trained quit coach. They provide private counseling and support, advice on crafting a quit plan, skills to help break old habits, and information on nicotine replacement therapy. Additionally, Idaho residents, age 18 and older, can receive 8 weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy (gum, patch or lozenge).

U of I employees are eligible for Freshstart nicotine cessation program on the 莫斯科 campus as well as free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). NRT products are covered under prescription plans as a result of 健康 Care Reform. Employees can obtain a prescription from their doctor and take it to be filled at a pharmacy. Generic medications are also covered.
